The City of Burien was looking to incorporate artwork onto traffic signal control boxes to showcase the neighborhood and business district’s identity while reducing graffiti on the boxes. The city invited the art community to submit three designs each for select traffic signal control boxes in the area. If your design was selected your artwork would be printed on vinyl material to be wrapped around the traffic signal control boxes for display.
I enjoyed researching and illustrating Burien themed artwork for the competition. It was difficult to choose the three designs out of eight potential submissions. I was told that the three designs I submitted made it to the final rounds of judging but were not selected for final production.
I look forward to next years competition.

If you’re in the Burien area, make a Pit stop at the tap house and get a closer look of the finalized piece. Rotating 18 beers on tap with a great selection of West Coast beers and ciders.

The inspiration behind the Burien Wa. collection is to pay respect and homage to the cities patrons while illustrating the historical importance of the area. With the recent rebrand for the City of Burien in process, I felt compelled to create the collection to reflect on the past events responsible for shaping the city.
I was blessed growing up in the city of Burien while graduating from Highline Highschool in the year 2000. Living in the Burien area for the last decade and being a home owner in the Hurstwood community for the the last three years. It has allowed me to discover and appreciate the importance of the area and its potential past and present.
Big thank you to the Highline Historical Society, for assisting me in retaining the images and sources needed for the illustrations in the collection. I would also like to thank the Burien Librarians who were eager to assist me with resources for the designs. Some of the photographs used for reference can be found in the book "The Many Roads to Highline" by Melba Eyler & Evelyn A. Yeager. Thanks to all the B-Town faithful who champion the area. I look forward to designing for the Burien community in the future.
After purchasing a house and living in the Hurstwood neighborhood for the last three years I felt compelled to create a logo monogram to represent the community proudly. The Hurstwood Community logo development was an opportunity to unite the neighborhood while providing an identity for our growing and close nit community.
