The Burien WA. Collection is now available for purchase online at the jdco.design shop. The collection can be purchased individually or in a complete set. The following poster & postcard series were inspired by the history of Burien, WA. The three series set includes the Toonerville Trolly streetcar, Lake Burien Observation Tree and Three tree point park. Each design was illustrated by referencing old photography from the time period.
The inspiration behind the Burien Wa. collection is to pay respect and homage to the cities patrons while illustrating the historical importance of the area. With the recent rebrand for the City of Burien in process, I felt compelled to create the collection to reflect on the past events responsible for shaping the city.
I was blessed growing up in the city of Burien while graduating from Highline Highschool in the year 2000. Living in the Burien area for the last decade and being a home owner in the Hurstwood community for the the last three years. It has allowed me to discover and appreciate the importance of the area and its potential past and present.
Big thank you to the Highline Historical Society, for assisting me in retaining the images and sources needed for the illustrations in the collection. I would also like to thank the Burien Librarians who were eager to assist me with resources for the designs. Some of the photographs used for reference can be found in the book "The Many Roads to Highline" by Melba Eyler & Evelyn A. Yeager. Thanks to all the B-Town faithful who champion the area. I look forward to designing for the Burien community in the future.
